Carver and Douglass Earn Cognia Accreditation

George Washington Carver STEM Academy for Boys and Frederick Douglass High School are the latest in Fayette County Public Schools to earn accreditation from the Cognia Global Commission. Notably, Carver was accredited with merit and also earned STEM certification.

Cognia is a nonprofit organization that provides quality assurance for schools, systems, education service providers, and state education agencies. Accreditation provides a nationally recognized mark of quality that demonstrates to our community a school’s commitment to excellence, a willingness to enact meaningful change based on evaluation and feedback, and a desire to be the best it can be for students.

Cognia recognizes schools that meet rigorous performance standards based on four key characteristics: Culture of Learning, Leadership for Learning, Engagement of Learning, and Growth in Learning. Those in good standing can maintain their accreditation for six years.

Several others in FCPS have previously earned accreditation. Unless renewed, their status expires June 30 of the year noted:
