Welcome to Frederick Douglass High School, a member of the Academies of Lexington. We feature four academies (Freshmen Academy, Academy of Health Sciences, Academy of Technology, and Academy of Professional Services with career pathways that provide both a living wage and viable future work opportunities. Transforming education into a path for future success and opportunities is important to us. Real-world, relevant and rigorous learning with a focus on pathways our kids choose. We truly understand why we do that for our kids.
We believe that students deserve an educational experience that's as innovative, immersive, and engaging as the world around them. We work hard to provide connections between the classroom and the real-world because we know that this innovative approach to education allows students to thrive in today's economy. Through quality instruction, we equip students with the skills necessary to be successful in high-demand industry sectors in Central Kentucky. Using data from the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics, we rooted our academy themes in areas we found would help fill the future workforce gaps.
By using small learning communities, the academies promote teamwork, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, which are skills relevant to all areas of life. Not only that, the academies help students see the purpose of what they're learning by linking career/technical content with the traditional core content of high school.
At Frederick Douglass, we are so excited to be a part of this innovative experience in Lexington!
